The Green Pipe manufactures pipe made from 100 per cent recycled plastic – almost entirely from household collected post-consumer milk and orange juice grade bottles.

Based in Moama, The Green Pipe has been widely recognised as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative for stormwater and drainage systems.

The products are made of a high-density polyethylene, including a minimum of 95 per cent food grade containers, to replace concrete, fiber cement and other piping products in civil, agricultural and forestry applications.

Current capacity enables The Green Pipe to produce up to six different pipe diameters simultaneously and can typically produce 450 metres of pipe per day consuming around 150,000 milk bottles in the process. This also happens on-site to secure the quality and availability of the raw material.

Commencing marketing activity to the rural sector of south-eastern Australia in 1999, The Green Pipe rapidly evolved to become a major supplier to both the rural and forestry industries of drainage pipe and crossings, leading to an expansion of activities to cover all states and territories through over 250 distributors serviced by 12 Pipe storage depots by 2002.

The Green Pipe brand was established after extensive product research was conducted leading to the successful development and production of a pipe possessing properties offering stiffness ratings more traditionally associated with concrete and PVC pipes and tensile toughness more appropriate to High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes.

Using 100 per cent recycled raw materials sourced primarily from kerbside collection and a unique low energy manufacturing process, the pipe has a carbon footprint of approximately 50 per cent of competitive virgin products. This coupled with its lightweight and ease of nesting and handling for transportation adds further to this energy saving attribute.

The Green Pipe is manufactured in 6 metre lengths in 6 different diameters which creates fewer joints during installation, improves laying rates and minimises potential leakage points. The highest-level acidic soils have no effect on the pipe, so once installed it will last indefinitely.

One of RAMJO Murray Waste Group’s councils, AlburyCity, is combining maggots and robotic technology to manage commercially generated food waste.

As part of the fascinating project, a unit the size of a shipping container is being installed at the Albury Waste Management Centre to process and recycle packaged commercial food waste.

The product is mostly expired food packaging along with commercial food waste sourced from large food generators.

The project will commence this month and run through to June 2022.

AlburyCity has also been successful in further grant funding through the NSW EPA Circulate Industrial Ecology Program to separate and recycle Plasterboard waste at the Albury Waste Management Centre more easily.

The project aims to recycle more than 1,000 tonnes of material. This Plasterboard waste can be crushed and used as a valuable agricultural and horticultural additive.

Funding will also be used to partner with the building industry to better manage the separation of plasterboard on building sites.

AlburyCity has also teamed up with Plastic Forests in a soft plastics business recycling trial to reduce the amount of soft plastic waste going to landfill through the commercial and industrial waste stream.

This will be achieved by working closely with around 20 local small to medium businesses to source separate soft plastic.

The material will be collected and transported to a local processor to be turned into 100 per cent recycled products.

The grants program has also approved funding for the Sunset on Solar program which is a project aimed at keeping end-of-life solar panels out of southern NSW landfills.

This initiative will involve partnerships with neighbouring councils to source the panels, with approximately 8,000 panels expected to be recycled during the project timeframe.

The overall cost of the projects is $477,137, with $279,000 provided under the funding program.

The Bin Trim program provides free help and support to NSW businesses to maximise recycling and minimise waste to landfill. It also helps save time and money, while caring for the environment.

Roughly 70 per cent of items in a business’s general waste bin can be reused or recycled. From cardboard, paper and plastic through to food waste – so much of this ends up in the general waste bin, when it could be avoided, reused or recycled.

Minimising the amount of waste sent to landfill is not just good for the planet; it is good for your business, helping to:

attract more customers by showing your environmental awareness

increase staff morale

gain recognition for actions taken

reduce impact on the environment

Statistics show that 95 per cent of businesses that have added a recycling service are diverting more waste and improving productivity and efficiency. Are you ready to join them?

Your business may also be eligible for a rebate of between $1,000 and $50,000 to help with the purchase price of recycling equipment.
